Sexual Violence in Families – Conference in Bremen Focusses on Networking and Cooperation

It was really crowded at the University of Bremen. 180 participants attended the opening lecture of the conference on the first day. The focal point of the congress was intentionally put on sexual violence in families, and the huge response proved that there is still a great need for exchange, networking, and further education in this field. Many discussions arose about the numerous aspects of the issue, well-known problems, as well as new challenges. The basis were the manifold lectures and workshops by experts which transferred understanding of complex questions of sexual violence but also ideas for practical work approaches.

The main topics of the lectures were the connection of the changing political culture and sexual culture in child protection; the complex dynamics of sexual violence in families; traumatic experiences and resilience; sexting, grooming, cyberbullying and many more.

The workshops focussed on practical work and presented different approaches such as professional guidance and support of children in their families by working together with several helping systems.

The closing lecture on the second day summarized all the different ideas and motivated the participants not to lose track of the target, to tackle problems together, and to strengthen important cooperation.
