Conference on High Conflict Divorces and the Well-being of Children in Leipzig

Challenges in the Work with Hopelessly Divided Parents

Despite the fact that the number of separations and divorces has remained static over the last years in Germany, the work with so-called ”high risk families“ for youth welfare services and counselling services is getting more and more and is demanding lots of energy from professionals. They are challenged because the conflict of the couples can grow to endanger the well-being of children.
The main aim of the lectures was to understand the impact conflicts of the couples can have on parenthood and the involved children.
The forums focussed on how the well-being of children can be protected by the cooperation of different professional protagonists. It became clear that it needs further efforts to find a common language between the different roles and assignments.
The workshops discussed new topics as well as practical ways of action.

Conclusion

There have been legal and professional developments in the field of high conflict parents during the last years. But still the challenges are enormous and improvements need to be made especially concerning linguistic communication and a better cooperation on behalf of the well-being of children.
