Understanding Childhood and Strengthen Children – Review on the Child Protection Forum 2018

What is good childhood about? How can we understand children better? And what challenges will experts on child protection have to tackle in the future?
About 450 participants of the 12th Child Protection Forum came to Münster (North Rhine-Westphalia) to discuss the manifold aspects of growing up in Germany. With passion and expertise, more than 50 contributors from home and abroad presented up-to-date results of research and experience from practical work in order to show where the lacks in our current system of help and support are and which concepts and solutions are needed.

The Child Protection Forum – as one of the biggest German conferences in this field – managed to gain insights and give important professional impulses for the further development of child and youth help services and child protection. From historical views on institutional childhood to nowadays problems with precarious circumstances for children as well as challenges of the digital society – the lectures, panels and workshops found great resonance with the participants from educational and health care services and other fields of work.

The feedback from experts and media once again demonstrates: the Child Protection Forum, which takes place every two years, is a crucial venue to strengthen and reflect practical child protection work in Germany.
